David Batchelor's sculptural works are based on the experience of colour found in the modern city.
A piece that I came across - 'Found Monochromes Of London' where the artist hunted for + photographed blank rectangular white panels within the city. The artist wanted to create a work that would show the monochrome to be part of our everyday lives - compared to opposing views found within high abstract art. These panels that would normally be overlooked but instead become fascinating miniature voids contrasted against the highly dense background of the city.
With his other works he explores the artificial use of colour by using brightly coloured light boxes and neon. He uses various types of cheap mass-produced plastics to create extravagant chandeliers and light sculptures that direct pure, highly saturated colour into the space that it occupies.
